Quickie: I am busy moving house

Tuesday, June 30, 2009 |

I have been busy moving house, I will move to Relau from my current house, Tmn Jubilee in Penang. It is such a bad timing for moving place. Company's retrenchment and moving house at the same week!

I am moving the stuffs slowly to my new room. Gosh, I have so many junks! Lots of books and stationary and clothes that I have not been wearing. I might have a garage sale soon.

I am a very messy person. =)

Part of my mess.

At the mean time, I am selling my wardrobe for RM80 (bought at RM130), used for 1 year only. I will give away my blue 5-level plastic tiers as well for FREE. Anyone interested ?? *blink* *wink*

DIY Hair Rebonding

Sunday, June 28, 2009 |

My sister and me share the same problem - Curly fringe.

Even though rebonding treatment has gone quite cheap nowadays, but you still need a hundred to get it done. So, this time we DIY.

I have my model - Jessie, my sister. with curly hair.

The tools:
1. Straightening Flat Iron (picture is stolen from here.)

Note: The straightening iron should have an adjustable temperature control, make sure it can go up to at least 180 degree Celsius.

2. Hair Clips (picture is stolen from here.)

3. The thing that does the magic -Straightening Creams
The straightening creams that I bought from a local hair store. RM20 for cream 1 and cream 2. Damn cheap.

This is cream 1 - Strong Straightening Cream

Instruction for cream 1:

Texture of Cream 1.

This is cream 2 - Neutralizing Cream

Instruction for cream 2

Texture of cream 2.

The Steps:

The steps are actually shown at back of the creams. But here I will elaborate more.

1. On dry hair, apply cream 1 all over the hair. Cream 1 is for breaking the bond of the hair. After the bond of the hair is broken, then we can sculpt the hair to what we want it to be. Cream 1 stinks. It would be good if you use a glove during application of Cream 1. But I didnt, daring eh?

2. After applying cream 1 we need to wait for the hair to "soften". It says wait for 30 minutes at the back of cream 1. There is a tip to check whether the hair has "soften" or not. It is to take a pinch of hair, then tie the pinch of hair into a knot. If the knot does not loosen, then it means the hair has "soften". This is because if the bonds are broken, then the hair will loose its elasticity.

After application of cream 1.

3. Rinse off cream 1 (if hair has soften) without using a shampoo. Then, apply cream 2. Cream 2 is a straigthening cream that will "mold" our hair straight. In another word, Cream 2 is a super strong glue to hold the bonds of the hair.

4. After 10 minutes. Rinse off cream 2, without shampooing again.

5. Blow dry hair, and then use a straightening iron to straighten the hair. The process of straightening will be a time consuming, cos we need to flat iron the hair bit by bit. I sprayed some water-based heat protector (MP Italy's, will be reviewed later) to protect the hair from extreme heat.

Voila. Done.

According to the salon, we should not wash our hair for 3 days after the rebonding.

The Result:
Sis's fringe is straight. But the hair behind is not that straight because we didnt wait long enough for the cream 1 to develop. However, this DIY rebonding session definitely tidy up sis's hair a bit. Not that fluffy and stuff.

Vince & Co's Promotion RM1 Hair Clips

Saturday, June 27, 2009 |

Bought two of these hair clips from Vince & Co for RM1 each. They have nice stuffs there, but only available in Penang though..

I'm a fan of honey. I love drinking honey water. Honey helps me to keep my body moist and to be less "heaty". Besides, I have also heard from a radio ad saying honey contains vitamins that we need for a day.

I was drinking Honey Mart's Honey with Propolis (bought from Eu Yan Sang) and I found it quite good. There were some times that I had bad sore throat and I consumed the honey directly without diluting it, it helped. I bought two bottles for RM90, which make RM45 per bottle for the Propolis Honey.

Right - Euphoria Longana Honey, Left - Honey with Propolis, both 500g

Close-up.

Then, it was economy downturn and my honey was finishing. So, I turned to a cheaper version of the honey - Euphoria Longana Honey. This Longan Honey was selling two for RM45 in Eu Yan Sang, which is half a price of the Propolis Honey, means one for RM22.50. It is called Longana Honey because it tastes like Longan, not because it has any Longan in it.

However, I think I made the wrong choice. I should have sticked to the Propolis Honey. During preparation of honey water, I usually use 1 tablespoon of Propolis Honey to mix with a mug of warm water. But, for the Longan Honey, I need 3 tablespoons to get the taste. The taste for Propolis Honey is strong enough though for only one tablespoon is used. For one tablespoon of Longan Honey, it is tasteless, like drinking plain water. So, I am not saving money here.

Euphoria Longana Honey - lighter in color

Honey with Propolis - Darker color and with some dark brown "residue" at the bottom.

Both honey taste very differently. When drinking Propolis Honey, there is a cooling sensation, it is like drinking the chinese medicated oil (风油), seriously. While for the Longan Honey, it tastes slightly sweet.

Effect wise, I feel Propolis Honey is more efficient in improving my sinus. Besides, Propolis is said to have beauty effect, so going for the Honey with Propolis will be a better choice for me. =)

Penang Coconut Jelly

Thursday, June 25, 2009 |

Went to Georgetown with my colleagues that day, and bought some coconut jelly when we pass by Times Square. This coconut jelly thing has been quite popular in Penang, how come I dont know about this shit??

So, this is the coconut, with its outer layer trimmed. The top is opened and covered with a sticker.

After opening the lid, we can see the coconut water - in jelly-form!

The coconut jelly tasted just like coconut water, very juicy and cooling. Besides, the jelly can be eaten with the coconut flesh which stuck at the coconut wall. I have no idea on how the jelly is made, some say that the whole coconut is roasted, and during the process of cooling down, crystallization formed.

Juicy. Nice.Yum.

Those who are visiting Penang should try this!

Wedding Gifts

Wednesday, June 24, 2009 |

I am not done with my friend's wedding yet. lol. I forgot to write about the wedding gifts. I thought it would be good to share them, so people can get some ideas when getting wedding gifts.

The gifts - Wine, wine glasses, Risis Golden Egg, and "Just Married" Ornament

Seriously, we had a hard time in choosing the gifts, we were all scratching our heads. After long discussions (via emails), we finally bought these. So, the gifts are all specials in their own way.

Wine Glasses - Bought from KLCC, for cheering and blessings on the couple's marriage =).

Wine - To complement the glasses. It is a Cabernet, 2008.

It has our signatures on the label.

Risis Golden Egg - It says "Xi" (囍) on the egg, which means double happiness, a common word used during wedding. The egg is bought from Risis Singapore. Guess what, it is actually a real goose egg! with the egg yolk and egg white taken out of course. Then, the egg is sealed with real gold. So, every egg is an unique egg. The egg is quite heavy as it is filled with pewter.

Description in Chinese. Lucky Golden Egg. Gold symbolises life and luck. While Egg symbolises new beginning. So Gold + Egg = ??

Description in English.

Wedding Ornament - Bought by Swee Seng from Singapore also. It is a couple riding on a scooter bike. The bike has "Just Married" words on it. So sweet..

Review - Tje Fuk Washing Cream 1

Tuesday, June 23, 2009 |

I bet most of the people here dont know about this brand. The brand is Tje Fuk and it is from Indonesia. My mum bought some of the Tje Fuk products while she was in Indonesia for vacation.

The washing cream actually come in two types - Green bottle (cleansing) and Yellow bottle (scrub). Here I will be reviewing the yellow bottle, which is the facial scrub. The green one is at my house back in my hometown. I will review that if I get a chance.

The ingredients. One of the selling point of this product is (which I found from its official website), it is mercury free.

So, I got to say that I like this product very much! The scrub is very nice to use. You only need a little of it to scrub your face. I am using this scrub without any pre-cleansing. While scrubbing, I actually feel the grains are massaging my face, it is very comfortable and relaxing! The grains are just the right size, not too large or too harsh on the skin. After scrubbing, face definitely feels cleaner & refreshed.

The texture. Very nice cream with tiny grains.

I have also used the green one a few times, and I found it quite good as well. Since I like this product, I have tried to google it and I found that there is a dealer from Malaysia actually sells this. But the price is not cheap, the yellow washing cream is selling at RM93.

My friend's wedding (Part 3-end)

Saturday, 6/6/09 - The wedding banquet

After the tiring bride-fetching ceremony. Next, it was the tea ceremony. So the tea ceremony is about the couple serving tea to the elders and get blessings (and Ang Pows) from them etc. When all the elders are served, then it is the youngers' turn. The youngers will get Ang Pow from the newly wed of course. For us, the Heng Dai, we were just so tired, so we chilled aside with the food provided from the bride's side =)

Tea Ceremony

Before leaving to the groom's house. The couple needed to pray (to the heaven and earth? I am guessing). 拜天地。

Yuup..ready to go. My friend Siew Lee playing carrying this basket that contained things that needed to bring back to the groom's house。The only thing that I can remember is honey-  for sweetness of marriage (甜甜蜜蜜)

Not to forget the roasted pork which appeared earlier on Part 2.

Until that we were done with the "station games", tea ceremony, eat and toilet and all that, it was 10am already! Gosh, we had to go back to Temerloh (our home town) before 2pm for the wedding banquet. And coincidentally, it was the sultan's birthday, on our way back, we were racing with hundreds of Toyota Cardina. The Toyotas were on some kind of charity drive to Cherating @@, why on my friend's wedding day? The Heng Dai cars are supposed to escort the bride car, but since we were a huge jam, the bride car left us behind.

Finally, we reached the groom's house at 1:30pm. We were left half an hour to dress up, you can tell from the way my messy hair look, haha!

The Wedding Banquet

Swee Seng singing his favourite song!

So, that was it! My friend, Ah Yet and his wife, Shannen's wedding. I wish both of you all the best and live happily together.
*P/S: Suddenly felt very lonely, haih~~

My friend's wedding (Part 2)

Saturday, 6/6/09 - Bride-fetching Ceremony ( 接新娘, wedding procession)

It was 7:30am, we already gathered at BHP Petrol Station @ Kesas Highway. Cos we are going to fetch the bride!

All the Heng Dai  (兄弟, brothers)are ready in blue. Light blue, violet blue, very green blue, light green blue, blue blue, we have all the blues..

Funny thing is, why the heng dai are mostly female =)

The bride car (新娘车) is  off to Klang to pick up the bride!

Yummy roasted pork awaiting us at the bride's house.

Here comes the groom.

The bride-fetching ceremony is actually a cruel + torturing ceremony. The groom (together with the heng dai) needed to undergo series of tests/games in order to see the bride.

Test 1: Makeup

Scary hor ?

Test 2: " I love you" undies

My friend, Ah Yet was too big, he broke the disposable underwear! haha!

Test 3: Push-ups and nasty drinks

unknown drinks.

Test 4: Banana & Grapes

What the heck?!

Finally, we arrived in front of the bride's room. Phew! But the Ji Mui (姐妹, sisters) couldnt get enough of the Ang Pows. They refused to open the door.

Luckily, my friend Boon Yoke, from the Heng Dai gang, pretended as Ji Mui, said that we were rushing on time and  asked the Ji Mui to open the door. The door opened. However, the Ji Mui was fast enough to block the door.

Cat fight in front of the bride's room. We were trying to get in the room, but the Ji Mui were too tough...@@

My poor friend, Swee Seng who got caught in the middle. They (Ji Mui) was pulling his shirt, to stop him from entering the room. They even tickled him. See.

After some pulling and dragging. We finally got into the room. I must admit that it wasnt an easy one. Finally, the groom get to meet the bride. Aww...soOOoo sweet ~~

Phew! Our Heng Dai mission finally accomplised!
